Airline Fares! Confusing?!?!
An articled in the Montreal Gazette to-day said
“The federal government is signalling that a law passed four years ago requiring airlines to advertise the full price of airfares could be too complicated to enact.”
And the Government said
“The government wants to do what’s best for consumers, while also ensuring there’s no confusing information in the marketplace.”
Confusing information? How about Air Canada’s ad for Toronto Halifax that shows one way from C$149 but when you book it the round trip including taxes cost you 489.97. Or one way Toronto London at $474 but round trip taxes included comes to $1369!
Contrast that with Air France/KLM who, whatever you are booking show you the price you will actually pay.
The sad part is that air travel now is more reasonable than it’s ever been (in 1961 it took the average wage earner 7 weeks pay for the cheapest ticket Toronto Paris return taxes included - in 2011 the cost is less than one week’s pay).
Come government and airlines, let’s stop making excuses and treat the consumers as intelligent buyers.
